Biped

When he's not paying attention, look who's standing up on two feet?

Can walking (and running) be far behind?

This is what he likes to do for fun:

I am so done folding dish towels for now.

One good thing about winter

We've had two snowstorms so far this year, and they're calling for more tonight.

I try to go take a picture out the back door when it snows because it looks so pretty. This is one of my favorites because of the sunrise.

I also like this glittery one (taken when it was still snowing):

The Right Tool for the Job

I have been slacking on blogging since 2011 began. The problem is, I get online, and I start reading about everyone else's resolutions to do such great things in 2011 (blogging every day; themes!; etc, etc.) and then I just want to take a nap.

Also, Truck has had his first cold, so it's not like I've been exactly well-rested.

And then Sunday, we had our first snow of the season. Which is exciting and beautiful and SO MUCH FUN, and we were especially lucky because Monday, we had a snow day from school AND it was in the upper 20s with no wind. I know, I know, that doesn't sound like anything to write home about to my California readers, but seriously! That is prime time play-in-the-snow weather. I took the kiddos out twice (not the Truck; he's sick, remember? Just the big two), and both times, I shoveled the ENTIRE, yes ENTIRE, driveway. Go me.

So, this is what I learned yesterday. Which of these shovels would you think would do a better job on clearing the driveway?

If you picked shovel number YELLOW, you would be wrong...but in good company, since that's the one I picked for shoveling number 1. It looked like it would be quality, but in fact, it was heavy. When I came inside, my knowledgeable California bred husband informed me that the other shovel would be better (ahem, why are YOU not shoveling then, oh friend in shorts and a t-shirt?!). But I must say, he was right. Shovel number silver was far superior.

In any event, I was lucky to have this assistant with the shoveling:

The other bright point in yesterday was taking the Squash, age 7, to the HUGE neighborhood sledding hill. It was his first time going. He was a little nervous (it's a big hill!) and we did the first run together. After that, the boy would have gone all day. Here he is, pre-sledding, and a lil nervous:

Today, it was back to real life. The snow is sticking around (because it was 9 degrees when I was driving home today, yo), but hopes are that by the weekend, we will get some sun and wamer temps, and it will be a happy memory. Til the next storm!
